Whatever you cover is still in the file. Drawing a block over a line puts an image on top of it. The original text run is untouched: select all and copy, or run any extractor over the result, and it comes straight back out. Anyone who receives this file can do exactly that.
If the line genuinely has to be gone for a filing, a submission, or a document going to a third party, use Redact. It re-renders the page as an image and the text layer stops existing. That's a real destruction, and it costs you searchability on that page. This tool doesn't pretend to do it.

What to place

The corrected text
You can also drag straight on the page to draw a block; pull the corners until the old text is hidden.Cover and retype drops a block and centers the text on it in one go. That's the usual fix, so it leads.
