How the decryption works. A protected PDF isn't "locked" the way a door is; the pages are stored as ciphertext, and the password derives the key that turns them back into something readable. This tool implements that key derivation itself, in JavaScript, following the ISO 32000 standard security handler: MD5, RC4, and AES-CBC all run in this tab. The password is used in memory and thrown away.

What this tool won't do. It won't guess, brute-force, or bypass a password you don't know. There's no shortcut: the ciphertext is the ciphertext. Sites advertising "unlock any PDF instantly, no password needed" are either lying to you or hoping the file has an empty owner password. This one tells you which situation you're in, and stops there.
